The building was patiently restored and transformed into a museum adapted to the presentation of contemporary works.
Emblematic of Parisian architecture and a witness to four centuries of history, the Bourse de Commerce, the former "Grain Market" of Paris, was patiently restored and then transformed into a museum adapted to the presentation of contemporary works by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando (TAAA - Tadao Ando Architect & Associates), with Lucie Niney and Thibault Marca, of the NeM agency, and Pierre-Antoine Gatier, architect of the Monuments Historiques, and Setec Bâtiment. While respecting the history of the building, faithful to the architectural landmarks of the 18th and 19th centuries, and revitalized by the radicalism of Tadao Ando's architecture, it establishes a new dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation.
The Japanese architect has created the conditions for a dialogue between architecture and its context, between heritage and contemporary creation, between past and present, between the collection and the visitor. The Bourse de Commerce is, to date, the most important project entrusted to Tadao Ando in France. French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec were invited to design the building's furniture.
